About the Event

Workshop dates

Starting Monday 17th January and running every other Monday until Mon 28th March.  7.30pm- 9.30pm

The Course

To be queer is, often, to not fit into traditional expectations around sexuality and gender. Historically, queer authors have taken this sense of outsiderdom and applied it to literary conventions, creating new forms to give expression to their senses of self and society. Through a series of writing exercises and group discussions of writing by Oscar Wilde, Leslie Feinberg, Akwaeke Emezi and others, you will learn tools to make your writing more experimental, in its prose, structure and use of character. The course is aimed at intermediate or advanced writers, who want to bring something different to their work.

  • Attendees will learn some of the history of experimental queer literature
  • Attendees will learn tools to experiment with prose, structure and character
  • Attendees will learn more about literary conventions, and how to challenge them
  • Attendees will have time and space to give and receive peer feedback

As part of the last session, attendees will have the opportunity, if they wish, to share some of the writing they have done during this course.
