About 'Writing Queer Short Stories'
A series of short courses spread out over the year that will focus on four aspects of the short story (Character, Setting, Language and Plot) through a decidedly Queer intersectional lens. Suitable for everyone at any stage of their writing journey, an intimate and intensive experience involving workshops, discussions,
writing exercises, submission opportunities, and a chance to share you work with others in a
safe and supportive environment. The series allows the freedom to pick and choose the three-week module that most speak to you, or plan your entire writing year and sign up to all four.
Feedback Received
I have had the pleasure of attending two of Jonathan’s online classes on writing queer short stories...I have learned so much, thanks to Jonathan.
Each three-week block was a mix of writing exercises, discussion and supportive on-the-fly critique, as well as a look at a plethora of inspirational writing from a wide spectrum of diverse queer voices. Jonathan’s friendly manner and sense of humour helped put me, the novice, at ease from the get go and the two hours a week went by in a flash. I would highly recommend his course to anybody experienced or novice!

make your story flow, turn your opening sentence into a bullet, and trust your reader so you
can take a little short cut here and there. Strap in, grab a cocktail, and let’s get this montage
