Jim MacSweeney
Bookseller at Gay's The Word

Jim MacSweeney has been manager of Gay’s The Word in London for over twenty years. The iconic bookshop marked its 40th anniversary with a big celebration at the British Library in 2019.

Books have always been an integral part of Jim’s life as his parents set up and ran a bookshop in Cork and as a teenager, Jim often worked school holidays in the family business.

Before joining Gay’s The Word in 1989 Jim worked with the Minority Rights Group.

supporting emerging LGBTQ+ writers
Out on the Page was set up in 2018 as an experimental project to bring together LGBTQ+ writers to write, support each other and to share information and experience.
Since then, we have held one-writing retreats, workshops, groups and cafe casual meetings across England.  We have also set up an online writer directory and forum for emerging LGBTQ+ writers.
We have received Arts Council England funding for 2020 to sustain and develop our much-needed work, including online events.
