Norena Shopland

Norena Shopland specialises in researching, recording, and promoting LGBT+, history.

Her acclaimed book Forbidden Lives: LGBT stories from Wales (Seren Books) is the first completely historical work on Welsh sexual orientation and gender identity. Other works include: The Veronal Mystery which examines a real-life gay crime; A Practical Guide to Searching LGBTQIA Historic Records (Routledge, November 2020) and Women in Men’s Clothes: from cross-dressing to empowerment (Pen and Sword, June 2021).

Norena co-authored an important free resource for LGBT+ researchers which can be downloaded on https://glamarchives.gov.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Queering-Glamorgan-28Aug2018.pdf

Keep an eye out for forthcoming workshops on research techniques.

supporting emerging LGBTQ+ writers
Out on the Page was set up in 2018 as an experimental project to bring together LGBTQ+ writers to write, support each other and to share information and experience.
Since then, we have held one-writing retreats, workshops, groups and cafe casual meetings across England.  We have also set up an online writer directory and forum for emerging LGBTQ+ writers.
We have received Arts Council England funding for 2020 to sustain and develop our much-needed work, including online events.
